Aches and Pains

Aches and pains can seem to come from nowhere. All of a sudden, things that were previously easy to do, now become difficult and laced with pain.

This is particularly common in the colder months when we are less active and the cool weather is also making our muscles and ligaments contract.

Imagine a rubber band sitting unused in a cold cabinet for quite a while – then, suddenly, you want to take it out and use it, immediately demanding that it move perfectly. Of course, it doesn't work properly – it's stiff. If it's an older rubber band it might even snap.

The muscles and ligaments in your body function much the same way. When they get cold, they tend to contract, get stiff and brittle. If one already has a condition like arthritis or tendinitis, this even further exacerbates the problem, making those joints and tendons tighter, and therefore more easily inflamed.

There are several things that can be done to assist in ridding yourself of these aches.

1. Take Vitamin D.

This vitamin assists in the creation of healthy bones, and studies have shown it effective in treating arthritis. Ironically, we get most of our Vitamin D from sunlight, which is much more absent during Autumn and Winter!
Taking fish oil can also markedly help.

2. Stretch.

Your body is complaining because it is stiff! So a great way to respond it by gently stretching every day. Most people don't stretch at all, and their ligaments are about as flexible as metal rods. This means they are particularly susceptible to problems relating to ligament stiffness.

In fact, here is a stretch that you can try:
Place the heel of one foot on a low object, such as a chair, stool or other stable location. Slowly reach towards your toes. If you can touch them, hold there, otherwise get as close as you can, and hold.
Hold the stretch for thirty seconds, and then repeat with the other leg.

3. Have an Adjustment.

There are many chiropractic techniques designed to assist the Adjustmentjoints, and help them to begin their healing cycle. These have been proven to be highly effective in treating problems.
